Frequently asked questions

What do I need to use Roamtty?

A server you can log in to over SSH, and its password or private key (Ed25519 and RSA keys in OpenSSH or PEM format are supported, including encrypted keys). Tap + on the Hosts page to add it.

Does Roamtty include an AI model?

No. Roamtty is an SSH client. Command-line AI tools such as Claude Code, Codex and Grok must be installed and signed in on your server; Roamtty starts them and connects you to them from your phone.

Does my work keep running if I disconnect or close the app?

Yes, in tmux mode. Choose Install plugins in the host menu to detect and install tmux; each session then gets its own remote tmux session that is reattached when you reconnect. A plain SSH session without tmux ends when it disconnects.

How do I reach my home or office computer from another network?

We recommend Tailscale: install it and sign in on both the phone and the server, then add the server in Roamtty by its 100.x.y.z address, with no public IP or port forwarding. You can also self-host Headscale and DERP relays. See Documentation: Remote access.

mosh does not connect. What should I check?

mosh uses UDP ports 60000–61000. Allow them in the server firewall and your cloud provider's security group; over Tailscale the UDP traffic goes through the tunnel and usually needs nothing opened. If mosh does not answer within 8 seconds, Roamtty falls back to SSH.

The app says the host fingerprint changed and blocks the connection.

The server may have been reinstalled or its key replaced, or someone may be intercepting the connection. Confirm the new fingerprint with the server's administrator first, then choose Verify again… in the host menu.

The connection drops when the screen locks or the app goes to the background.

Android: allow background running in the app's settings and turn off battery optimization for Roamtty; on OPPO, OnePlus and realme (ColorOS), also choose “Allow full background activity” in App info → Battery usage. iOS: the system suspends an app's network connections some time after it goes to the background. Use tmux mode so work keeps running on the server; Roamtty reconnects when you return.

Where are my passwords and keys stored?

Only on your phone: encrypted with the Android Keystore on Android, and in this-device-only Keychain storage on iOS. Passwords are stored only when you tick “Encrypt and save password on this device”, and key passphrases are never saved. See the privacy policy.

How do I delete my data?

Roamtty has no accounts, and the developers hold none of your data. Deleting a host in the app removes its configuration, credentials and session records; uninstalling removes all local data (on iOS, delete your hosts before uninstalling to remove their Keychain credentials). Status files written to a server when you start an AI agent from the app live in ~/.roamtty and can be deleted at any time.

How much does Roamtty cost?

Roamtty is a paid app you buy once, at the price shown on Google Play or the App Store. After that there are no in-app purchases, subscriptions or ads. The Android and iOS apps are sold separately in their own stores and are purchased separately.

How do I get a refund?

Payments and refunds are handled by the stores, so we cannot refund you directly. On Google Play, follow the Google Play refund policy; on the App Store, request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
